Outline

The Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program aims to assist high-achieving students from rural or isolated areas commencing studies in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW.

Rural Scholarships are offered for all schools in the Faculty of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, and Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering).

By applying for the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program you may be considered for the following scholarships. More scholarships may be added to this list progressively.

Scholarship Value and Duration Program Eligibility
Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship (UGCE1003)

$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program - Multiple Offers Available

Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in any Faculty of Engineering degree program.
Luciano Ferracin Memorial Rural Engineering Scholarship (UGCE1171)

$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program

Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in any Faculty of Engineering degree program.
Graham Painton Rural Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship (UGCE1249)

$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in one of the following degree programs:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Telecommunications)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Manufacturing)

Exclusions: Flexible First Year

Stan Hall Rural Scholarship (UGCE1038)

$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program


  • Have completed the NSW HSC (or interstate equivalent) or IB in the previous two years prior to commencing at UNSW, provided no tertiary study was undertaken during this period
  • Be commencing full-time undergraduate study in the following degree program:
    • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering
Klabe Family Scholarship (UGCE1338)

$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the following degree program:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Flexible First Year is permissible.

Mitsubishi Rural Scholarship in Mining Engineering (UGCE1031) $15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years) Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in one of the following Faculty of Engineering degree programs:
  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering (Honours)

Exclusions: Flexible First Year

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria in addition to the program requirements listed above:
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident (including Humanitarian Visa Holders) or New Zealand Citizen; and
  • Be a rural applicant:

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
  • Academic Merit
  • Leadership skills (school, workplace or community)
  • Extra-curricular activities (sporting, cultural activities, volunteer/work experience)
  • Aptitude and commitment to studies in an area of Engineering

You must provide evidence supporting the above criteria in your online application. Please refer to the Scholarship Application Supporting Documents for a detailed list of examples.

Unanswered application questions or claims without supporting documentation will not be assessed. Late applications/supporting documentation will not be accepted. Activities/Achievements recorded more than 3 years ago will not be considered in your application assessment.

Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview on the 20th of November 2024.
